A structural engineer in Vietnam explained it to me like this: “If the building is under four stories and needs column‑free space, steel is the obvious choice. If it’s a high‑rise residential tower or a bunker, go concrete or composite.”
More projects are doing steel frame + concrete core or composite decking. You get speed from steel and mass from concrete where you need it. The 2025 edition of Eurocode 4 (design of composite steel concrete structures) has made these hybrid systems easier to design and get approved.
